Kar-Tainer milestones throughout the years

1991

Kar-Tainer International was established by founder Richard Cox

1993

Kar-Tainer entered the global stage when a contract for SKD transport from South Africa to Changcun, China was awarded by FAW-Volkswagen

1995

Following the success of the initial SKD project with VW Group, Kar-Tainer was tasked with a project shipping cars in containers from South Africa to Germany

1996

Kar-Tainer made its first big entry in the US market when Kar-Tainer equipment was implemented for vehicle transports between the US West Coast and Hawaii

1997

Kar-Tainer was identified as a high value enterprise and acquired by Allied Holdings

1999

Kar-Tainer secured a contract for BMW 3-Serie cars being transported from South Africa to Europe. Over 130.000 cars were shipped over a 5 year period

2000

Following the success of the BMW project, Kar-Tainer commenced cooperation with Diamler for Mercedes Benz C-Series cars moving from South Africa to England

2005

Kar-Tainer's founder, Richard Cox, repurchased the company from Allied Holdings and new corporate headquarter was set up on Bermuda

2006

After 118.000 Daimler cars shipped with industry record damage rates of less than 0.025%, Kar-Tainer asserted itself as a quality provider for vehicle transport

2007

Kar-Tainer introduced newly developed single-car cassette systems for shipping 2-5 vehicles in a 40HQ container

2009

Kar-Tainer enters the Indian market in scale through a partnership with Adani Logistics transporting between 4000-5000 Maruti cars monthly by rail in India

2012

Kar-Tainer introduces the Motor Cycle Cassette System in the Indian Market

2012

Kar-Tainer expands in China with a contract for MG cars produced by SAIC in Shanghai for sales in South Africa

2014

A new contract with Daimler for transporting around 23.000 vehicles yearly from South Africa to Europe starts

2015

Kar-Tainer expands it's external loaded SKD solutions and secures a contract with JLR car bodies being transported from Halewood, UK to JLR facilities in Brazil

2016

More than 1 million vehicles have been transported on Kar-Tainer equipment

2017

Kar-Tainer updates its appearance with a new look that epitomizes it's advancement in the vehicle containerized transportation market

2018

Kar-Tainer re-establishes pressence in Asia with the opening of an office in Shanghai

2020

A new SKD contract with Volkswagen where all VW SKD vehicles going for assembly in Sub-Saharan Africa will be shipped on Kar-Tainer equipment

2024

A new CBU contract signed with Maersk for providing equipment for a project of shipping electric cars in containers from China to Europe
