The 4-car CBU Cassette system is a single-unit, external loaded containerization system. Equipment is built up on flat ground before cars are pre-staged onto cassettes external of the container. It is suitable for shipping smaller vehicles like compact cars, smaller sedans, and hatchbacks.
The 4-car CBU system consist of two identical equipment modules, each being one flat-cassette and one angled-cassette. The angled-cassette has a rack constructed on top of the base unit which allows one vehicle to be angled over the other. Two modules together make up the length of a 40-foot container, and when loaded into the container the footprint of the 4 cassettes will equal the footprint of the container. One module can also be used in a 20-foot container.
When loaded in container, the four base units interlink, filling out the entire floor of the container which ensure the integrity of the system, keeping it in place without having to do any drilling or fastening work inside the container. Cars loaded on Kar-Tainer cassettes will always stay inside the perimeter of each cassette which further ensures vehicle safety. Should accident first occur, the cassette will take the blow, not the vehicle.
Loading operations require minimal facilities and infrastructure. To pre-stage cars on cassettes, all that is needed is a flat surface and personnel to assemble the equipment and load the cars onto the cassettes securely. The loading process can be performed with containers on the ground, at a loading dock, or even while they are still on the container chassis. This approach enables efficient turnover at the loading site, minimizing the space required for setting up loading and unloading operations.
The system is designed to meet OEM demands on quality and safety; allowing for operations where no personnel ever enter the container or perform work below elevated cars, while at the same time ensuring industry record-low damage rates. The system is extremely user friendly and requires a minimum of maintenance.
