The loading process revolves around positioning equipment (cassettes and lashing material), loading cars onto the cassettes and securing them, before inserting the pre-staged system into the container. Cars are reversed onto cassettes before all four tires are lashed using a round-the-wheel method to ensure the vehicle can move on own suspension and absorb the forces subjected to the container during transport. Once in a pre-staged condition, a forklift can simply pick up the whole system and insert it into the container; first cassette is pushed into the container until it is flush with the container door before the second cassette will push the first one fully into the container.
All operations are done outside of the container with no personnel ever entering the container. Compared to solutions where cars are lashed to the container floor where operators must exit and enter the car after driving it into or out of the container, tying or untying lashings, and maneuver along the vehicle in a highly confined space, our solutions help to streamline operations and ensure the safety of both the vehicle and the operators.
The cassettes are fitted with 15 lashing hooks for each tire, ensuring vehicles of all wheelbases can be loaded and securely lashed to the cassette. Each cassette is six meters long, and vehicles with a length of up to 5.8 meters can be safely loaded; the vehicle will stay within the confine of the cassette protecting the car from any potential damage.
The system offers a great alternative to the standard expendable wooden skids often used for shipping cars in containers. However, where a wooden skid can only be used once, our returnable steel equipment has a lifetime of 15-20 years and can be used continuously for vehicle shipments throughout this period.
