The 4-car SKD Cassette system is designed for smaller vehicles such as hatchbacks and smaller sedans. It can load pure BIW (body in white), painted bodies, or full kits, including SKD (semi knocked-down), MKD (medium knocked-down), and DKD (disassembled knocked-down) configurations. This system allows for bodies and parts to be loaded onto cassettes outside the container, which can then be easily inserted into the container with a forklift, similar to other Kar-Tainer systems.
The 4-car SKD Cassette system consists of two identical equipment modules, each comprising one flat-cassette and one angled-cassette. The angled cassette has a rack constructed on top of the base unit, allowing one vehicle body to be angled over another that is loaded horizontally. Two modules together span the length of a 40-foot container, and when loaded, the four cassettes occupy the container's entire footprint. Additionally, a single module can be used in a 20-foot container.
The system can be used to either load full vehicle kits onto the cassette, or as a simple BIW/painted body transport system. Where full kits are loaded, load-baskets are constructed on stillages above the horizontally loaded vehicle. Larger parts like tires, transmissions, and engines can be positioned on the base-unit using specialized brackets.
Each cassette weighs over 400 kg, is self-supported, and does not need to be attached to the container floor. The footprint of the system matches that of the container floor, and its heavy weight ensures stability during transport. The loaded cassette can be lifted by a forklift and inserted into the container, eliminating the need for personnel to enter the container during loading and unloading operations.
Minimal facilities and infrastructure are needed to load or unload vehicle bodies and SKD kits onto the Kar-Tainer SKD Cassettes. We will collaborate with you to design the optimal method for transferring bodies from your production line onto our cassettes, and from our cassettes to your assembly line at the destination country.
