The 1 millionth car shipped

Posted on Apr 19, 2016

Kar-Tainer ships its millionth car - following many successful years of CBU and SKD shipments Kar-Tainer passed the 1,000,000 cars shipped mark, with one of the Daimler shipments out of East London to Zeebrugge.

With an on-going claim rate of less than 0.01%, Kar-Tainer can boast being the most experienced and successful containerised vehicle shipper in the world.

More JLR SKD bodies arrive in Brazil

Posted on Feb 22, 2016

The next 16 bodies of the Jaguar Land Rover SKD project have arrived safely at their Brazilian destination just outside of Rio de Janeiro. These bodies were unloaded and ready for assembly with another 300 bodies now already on route. As the new plant comes on stream shipments in excess of 120 bodies are expected to leave the JLR Halewood plant on a weekly basis. Currently approximately 100 newly manufactured cassettes at KTI’s base in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, are being transported weekly to Halewood to maintain the required pool of equipment for this contract.

The first container of 4 SKD Land Rover bodies arrived in Brazil and were unloaded at the new Jaguar Land Rover facility outside of Rio de Janeiro. Jaguar Land Rover SKD Development

Posted on Aug 25, 2015

Development was completed in June for the shipping of 4 JLR SKD bodies in a 40ft container, with the main contract to start almost immediately. Kar-Tainer’s patented SKD exterior loading systems were the only systems that could carry out this process, and also deal with the anticipated volumes. Another big project for Kar-Tainer following on behind the large Daimler project which has been going on since December 2014.

Jaguar Land Rover SKD Project Started

After months of testing and quality control, Kar-Tainer, last month, shipped the first SKD bodies for Jaguar Land Rover’s new SKD export project, out of Halewood, UK. Kar-Tainer will be providing a large pool of it’s exterior loading SKD cassettes to satisfy the new project, thought to be one of many, which is part of JLR’s global expansion program. The implementation of this pool of cassettes will be carried out over the next 6-8 months, being supplied from its manufacturing base in South Africa.

The Mercedes Benz C Class export project out of East London, South Africa, into Zeebrugge, Belgium, is moving along very successfully. Monthly volumes have been as high as 2,500 units as the success of the new C Class is felt in the UK market, where all the vehicles are destined.

Daimler contract begins

Posted on Nov 07, 2014

Kar-Tainer was granted the contract to ship the C Class exports for the UK in September of this year, with the first live load leaving our packing facility in East London on Thursday 7th November. The initial contract is for a period of 3 years but is expected to go the term of the model. With volumes expected to be in the region of 2,000 per month the contract is likely to replicate the previous contract Kar-Tainer had with Daimler from 2000 to 2006, where Kar-Tainer shipped 116,000 cars from East London to the English port of Bristol. Testing for this contract started back in June 2013, and with Daimler’s stringent quality standards, particularly of loading vehicles externally of the container, Kar-Tainer was the only viable option. All test shipments were an absolute success culminating in the granting of the contract.

Kar-Tainer granted second Daimler contract

Posted on Nov 07, 2014

Daimler granted Kar-Tainer a second shipping contract involving exports from South Africa to their lower volume markets. This move involves the use of a disposable wooden pallet for loading, with cars being shipped in 20ft and 40ft containers. Once again the exterior loading concept is key to the quality standards required for this move. The first live load was carried out successfully on November 7th from East London. Volumes are expected to be much lower than the main C Class contract but could be in region of 1,500 cars per year.

Kar-Tainer receives another 4 car cassette order for Indian market

Posted on May 29, 2014

Adani Logistics confirmed another order for Kar-Tainer’s exterior loading cassette systems. The order comprised 100 sets, or 400 cassettes, of the 4 car exterior loading cassette system, which will be used, in conjunction with Adani’s five car systems, on the Delhi to the Port of Mundra rail route. With Maruti’s move to larger vehicles in this market segment, Adani saw the need to expand the cassette pool to include the 4 car system in order to move these larger vehicles 4 per container. This order is being manufactured locally and is expected to be fully installed by end of July 2014.
